EFFECTS OF THE LIBYAN REVOLUTION OF 1969

  There was a cultural revolution in Libya; Ghadafi started by prohibiting all the imported ways of life like smoking, prostitution, and drinking Alcohol among others, this was in a bid to model the Libyan society to the original Islamic principles. Arabic was re-installed as the official language in Libyan schools and offices. This was revitalized and enabled a number of people to access the civil and employment sectors. A new political ideology was put in place that is the 3rd universal theory or Islamic law ‘’Sharia” This was to counteract the influence of socialism and capitalism in Libya. There was formation of the revolutionary command council; it was headed by Muammar Ghadafi who wished to re-assert Libya’s independence against any sort of external influence. CAUSES OF LIBYAN COUP IN 1969

  The need for genuine independence. The 1951 independence was pseudo (paper independence) for the king remained a stooge/puppet fostering Western interests in Libya. Both the British and Americans had military bases in Libya forexample at wheelus air field and Eladem respectively. This annoyed nationalists who sought the use of a barrel as the only way to cause changes in Libya. The growth of socialism in Libya paved way for a coup to over throw Idris who was capitalist oriented. The army wished to end regionalism i.e. (Tripolitania, Cyreniaca and Fezzan), unite all the people and promote equality, socially or economically. The king looked adamant hence the coup became inevitable. SUCCESSES OF NASSER’S FOREIGN POLICIES

  Gamel was one of the free Officers Movement that overthrew the puppet regime of King Farouk in 1952. He was first the prime minister of Egypt and later became president in 1954 after the overthrow of Muhammad Neguib. THE FOLLOWING ARE THE ACHIEVEMENT OF NASSER'S FOREIGN POLICY Nasser successfully sent expatriates to African countries to help fill the man power gap after the departure of colonial masters. These expatriates included teachers, engineers, and doctors, for example in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. Nasser promoted the use of African languages on the continent. This included Kiswahili, Arabic, Amhara, Hausa among others hence easing communication. Nasser succeeded in destabilizing the state of Israel.
