Problems associated with tourism in Africa

  • cultural pollution: this occurs when foreign culture interacts with local culture and makes the locals to abondan their ways in favour of foreign culture.

  • spread of diseases: some tourists when they enter in the country come with various diseases which can be transmitted to local population. the spread of diseases such as HIV/AIDS across international borders can be fueled by tourism. there are diseases that are far more deadly which can also be spread through tourism. an example of such a disease is Ebola.

  • drug trafficking: some drug traffickers move from one country to another pretending to be tourists. airports and road border posts in many part of Tanzania have a shortage of equipment to catch global drug traffickers.

  • unfair exploitation of resources: some tourist activities such as game hunting may lead to the dwindling of wild animals and disturbance to the ecosystem.

  • environmental degradation: this may be caused by activities done to develop tourist attractions such as building roads and hotels.

  • places of interest become expensive to locals. local population fail to enjoy their environment because in many cases tourist attraction involves entrance fee and is tailor-made for foreign tourists who can afford them.
