SAMPLING TECHNIQUES IN RESEARCH

Image
  1. RANDOM SAMPLING  It is a type of probability sampling where by every individual has an equal chance to be selected in a sample. This technique involves selecting a sample randomly from the sampling frame without replacement. E.g. it is very common in Lottery’s such as Bingo and communication companies. Disadvantages - The better sample may not be chosen. - It is very tedious or tiresome. - It is time consuming especially when the population is high. - It is representative in Heterogeneous population. Heterogeneous population –means a population with different characteristics. 2. SYSTEMATIC SAMPLING  It is a sampling technique where by a sample is obtained randomly but in a systematic way. It is a sampling technique which involves selection of a sample randomly at regular intervals from the sampling frame 3. STRATIFIED SAMPLING  -Individuals for the sample are selected from different strata. Example: A researchers wishes to get a sample of 20 students from 5 scho...

6 Reasons for Using Samples in Research

Before you know why you should use sample in your research, here are some terminologies you should understand  Sample, this is the finite part of statistical population whose properties are studied to gain information about the whole. When dealing with people, it can be defined as set of respondents selected from large population for the purpose of survey.  Population, this is group of individual person, objects or items from which sample are taken for measurement. For example a population of book, presidents, teachers or students.  Sampling, is the act, process or technique of selecting a suitable sample or representative part of the population for the purpose of determining parameters or characteristics of the whole population.  A sampling frame, is the specific data from which sample is drawn for example telephone book The following are 6 reasons sample should be used your research studies. The time factor - sample may provide you with the needed information...
