7 ADVANTAGES, 6 DISADVANTAGES, AND 7 OBJECTIVES OF RESEARCH

the following are the objectives of the research

  •  To describe about certain phenomena

  • To search for new knowledge/insights.

  • To develop theory about certain social-economic phenomena.

  • To test the hypothesis so as to find out their reliability.

  • To be familiar with a certain phenomena

  • To find solutions to the existing problems.

  • To make evaluation of a certain issue.

The following are advantages of research

  • it helps to gain familiarity with phenomena or to achieve new insight into it

  • help to find a solution to existing problems which have a direct impact on human being and his surroundings

  • help to develop theories about certain social-economic phenomena

  • to provide the basis for government policies to justify changes in various sectors

  • it helps people to attain high position in the social structure

The following are disadvantages of research

  • it consumes a lot of time hence the researcher can not do other things

  • it is expensive to conduct research since sometimes it needs funds to hire research assistant, money for transportation, and money to print and distribute the questionnaire

  • some findings may be useless and confusing to the community

  • the researcher may concentrate on a single problem leaving many other problems unsolved for example attention on HIV/AIDS ignoring education

  • research is confined only to intellectuals thus making it inapplicable in illiterate societies'

10 EFFECTS OF THE KABAKA CRISIS OF 1953

In 1952 Sir Andrew Cohen was appointed as the new Governor of Uganda. Misunderstandings soon cropped up between him and Kabaka Muteesa II of Buganda and this made Cohen to depose the Kabaka. On 30th November 1953, he deported the Kabaka to London where he lived in exile till 1955. The political confusion surrounding the deportation of the kabaka is referred to as the “Kabaka crisis”. 15 EFFECTS OF THE KABAKA CRISIS OF 1953 The crisis seriously undermined and terminated the Buganda Agreement of 1900. By disrespecting each, both the Kabaka and Governor Cohen broke the Agreement and rendered it null and void. Kabaka Muteesa II was deportated to London where he stayed for two years till 1955 when he returned. The crisis led to strained relations between the British and the former Baganda collaborators because of the deportation of their kabaka.
